To finish our dinosaur topic we have had an innovate week! We have planned our own dinosaur habitat and made it! We went outside to collect leaves, stones and twigs for our habitats. We learnt that our dinosaurs need water, food and shelter so we made sure our habitats had them! Here are some pictures of us making our dinosaur habitats!

What did you put in your dinosaur habitat? Did you enjoy creating them?

Welcome to Year 1!

We have started our topic of ‘Dinosaur Planet’ by following clues and discovering an egg! We later found out it was a dinosaur egg!

We have been reading the book ‘Dinosaurs Love Underpants’ and we have been learning a text map to help us to retell the story. Can you retell the text map at home?

It all began one sunny day when cavemen felt embarrassed in the nude, so someone dreamt up underpants to stop them looking rude.
Huge dinosaurs roamed everywhere all pointy teeth and enormous long necks, but the scariest and meanest was Tyrannosaurus Rex.
When T-Rex saw man’s colourful knickers he roared with deafening rants. I don’t want to eat you up I want your underpants!
T-Rex pinched a furry pair but his pants quickly ripped. He couldn’t get them past his gigantic feet Oh! Whoops! Watch Out! He tripped!
The woolly pants made Stegosaurus itchy. Diplodocus was really cross because his pants were far too titchy!
Soon spotty, stripy pants were flying everywhere, the gigantic dinosaurs were fighting in a great pants tug of war.
The mighty pants war raged all night THUMP, POW, BASH, THWACK, CLOUT! The fighting got so crazy all the dinosaurs were wiped out.
The next day out the hairy cavemen crept and cheered at what they saw, hooray our biggest enemy is now at last no more!

In class we have read the Gruffalo book by Julia Donaldson! We have made and learnt a text map as a class!

Can you practise this at home?

A mouse took a stroll through a deep dark wood, a fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good. Where are you going to, little brown mouse? Come and have lunch in my underground house. It’s terribly kind of you Fox but unfortunately I’m having lunch with a Gruffalo. A Gruffalo, what’s a Gruffalo? A Gruffalo, why didn’t you know? He has terrible tusks and terrible claws and rotten teeth in his rotten jaws! Where are you meeting him? Here by these rocks and his favourite food is roasted fox! Roasted fox! I’m off Fox said. Silly old Fox, doesn’t he know there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo?

On went the mouse deeper in the wood a snake saw the mouse and the mouse looked good. Where are you going to, tiny brown mouse? Come and have tea in my log pile house. It’s wonderfully good of you snake but unfortunately I’m having a feast with a Gruffalo. A Gruffalo, What’s a Gruffalo? A Gruffalo, why didn’t you know? His eyes are orange, his tongue is black, and he has purple prickles all over his back! Where are you meeting him? Here by this lake and his favourite food is scrambled snake! Scrambled snake! It’s time I hid. Silly old snake doesn’t he know there’s no such thing as a Gruffal…

Oh help oh no it’s a Gruffalo! My favourite food! The Gruffalo said, you’ll taste good on a slice of bread!

Good, cried the mouse don’t call me good. I’m the scariest creature in this wood. Just walk behind me and soon you’ll see everyone is afraid of me!

They walked further and further in the deep dark wood till the Gruffalo said ‘I hear a sound in the leaves ahead’. My friends said the mouse, why friends hello. They took one look at the Gruffalo. Oh crumbs they said and off they fled. You see said the mouse, I told you so. Amazing, said the Gruffalo. Well, Gruffalo you see, everyone is afraid of me and now my tummy is beginning to rumble and my favourite food is Gruffalo crumble! As quick as the wind the Gruffalo turned and fled.

All was quiet in the deep, dark wood. A mouse found a nut and the nut was good.
